By Light Professional IT Services: The Trusted Choice for Federal IT
“The value of By Light lies in our people,” says Donahue. “We believe that good people not only attract other good people but also allow us to excel in solutions delivery.”
Their specialized pool of onsite and remote personnel are armed with a broad and diverse arsenal of services that makes By Light a sought-after choice for the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), USCENTCOM, USSOCOM, and the JFHQ DODIN organizations. “We live and breathe our customer’s mission, and whenever possible, we send our personnel to the customer site so that we can work side-by-side with them in the same trenches,” mentions Donahue. Whether the need is for cyberspace solutions, cloud computing, mobility, Agile software development, IAM, WAN, wireless, satellite, or HF engineering and implementation, By Light covers it all and makes it a point to be a true partner to all of their clients.
To throw light on some of their solutions, By Light has designed, implemented, and supported some of the largest and most complex 100GB optical networks in the world. Their turn-key solutions range from facility preparation, dark fiber and optical equipment purchasing, network design and architecture, IP/MPLS overlay, network performance measurement, and much more. Another example is their manufacturing and design capability. By Light identified a compelling operational need and designed a small form factor solution to resolve this shortfall. Their engineering team developed a converged IP network in a single, compact chassis with a Tactical RoIP Inter-Communications System (TRICS) and a complete Radio over IP (RoIP) network solution that significantly improved Special Operators mission performance metrics. Another example of By Light’s strong customer focus was the design and production of new modules for Klas Telecom’s baseband product, which reduced complexity and deployed Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) requirements, delivering a streamlined capability that exceeds legacy system performance. By Light also went on to design and implement High Definition Video modules and iDirect Satellite Modems for the Klas product line, providing a single case solution for Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) ingest.
By Light has also garnered notable achievements in wireless communication. The company has proudly delivered hundreds of successful wireless implementations, consisting of more than 10,000+ access points for DoD and federal agencies. In April 2019 By Light was awarded the federal partner of the year by HPE’s Aruba subsidiary, for demonstrating excellence in networking and security platforms, which again speaks volumes about By Light’s expertise. End-to-end and comprehensive SATCOM solutions are another of By Light’s core competencies. They offer various strategic and tactical satellite services, including design, integration, installation, maintenance, and training. Most of the members in By Light’s engineering team are ex-tactical communicators from one of the finest special operations units in the DoD. The company has worked with GSA to provide custom SATCOM and Mobile Command Postsolutions. On the tactical communications front, “We were able to grow our work share because of the unique warfighter experience of our employees and their willingness and proven ability to operate in hazardous duty and/or remote, austere locations,” adds Donahue.
We believe that good people not only attract other good people but also allow us to excel in solutions delivery
By Light’s robust customer-centric approach has successfully enabled them to build a strong foundation of Large IDIQ Prime contracts that serve as the foundation of their growth and market penetration success. These include : T4/ T4NG(VA); GSM-ETI(DISA); Encore III (DISA); GSA Alliant 2 (GWAC); TOMS (NSA); SATCOM II (NSA);ITES- 3S (Army); ITSS-4(DOJ); and EAGLE II(DHS). A few of the stand outtask orders include: MyHealthyVet (MHV) enterprise Patient Portal, the VA’s Identity Access Management(IAM)Enterprise Application and The STIC/VICHEES Cloud hosting for VBMS/IAM/Chapter 33). By Light was in charge of ensuring system availability, reliability, and sustainability, including incident response and information assurance support tasks that optimize system performance; needless to say they nailed it. Authorities at the VA Office of Information & Technology (OI&T) were so impressed by the results that they submitted the MHV Team to a Special Act award.
Another feather in By Light’s cap is the support extended toward My HealtheVet (MHV), the VA’s Enterprise Patient Portal that provides tailored medical records and prescription drug fulfillment remotely for today veterans. One of their recent successes includes the seamless migration of MHV from an IBM/Terremark environment to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment. Apart from cloud migration, By Light also provided technical services, equipment, operational support, uninterrupted availability, and continuity of operations for all existing applications, features, and services in the MHV production environment. In addition, By Light came in with necessary expertise in Agile software development and orchestrated DevOps efforts for timely delivery of optimized enterprise-level software development. Consequently, while the initial migration was due for completion within 18 months, with By Light, the timeline was brought down to eight months! “During the MHV cloud migration, our technical team maintained continuous, round-the-clock availability to resolve any issues quickly. Our level of commitment was highly appreciated, and today it’s considered as one of the biggest examples of cloud success in the federal space,” points out Donahue.
While this is just a snippet of the exceptional IT services delivered for one contract, the company has leveraged its prime IDIQ contracts to build over $500M in annual revenue with a deep bench of new IDIQs to drive accelerated growth for the foreseeable future.
By Light is a long-time key provider of systems engineering services, network implementations, verification/validation, and operations support to DISA. Leveraging its success with DISA, the company developed the reputation for delivering cutting-edge telecom infrastructure on schedule and within budget to win contracts with the DISA, DOD; JFHQ DODIN; Combatant Commands (CCMDs) and Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO).
“In the days to come, cyberspace is an area we are planning to expand significantly,” reveals Donahue. The company is currently invested in further developing their cyberspace understanding (ways in which it will be administered and deployed), and consequently, they are working on the 3T Interactive Cyber Training —train me, teach me, and test me Hands-on Cyber Training that is further reinforced with the recent acquisition of Metova. Two months ago, By Light made a strategic acquisition of Metova Federal, a leading provider of cyber range solutions to integrated Cyber Training into their overall Cyber Offerings. This very promising acquisition further strengthened their cyber mission portfolio and overall capability.
With head-on successes in the past, By Light’s focused strategy based on winning large IDIQ Prime Contracts augmented with an extensive solutions portfolio makes it easy to see why By Light will continue to champion the IT services space for federal agencies.
